Pelotonia

With the resounding success of the first Pelotonia Tour, Ohio has cemented its place in the major leagues in the fight against cancer. Modeled after the Pan-Mass Challenge, Pelotonia is a grass roots bike tour with one goal: to end cancer. Pelotonia raises money for innovative and life saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

SEPTA residents had the privilege to provide 154 hours of community service during the ride, providing much needed assistance in setting up and tearing down the Nelsonville / Hocking College Water Stop each day of the event. Our stop was 90 miles into the 180 mile, two day event. When the counting is done, the two-day, 180-mile bicycle tour to Athens and back, kicked off by cycling legend and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, is expected to have raised about $4.5 million for Ohio State University's Comprehensive Cancer Clinic, including the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

From that start, Pelotonia organizers hope to see the total grow to $40 million over five years. SEPTA plans to be there, providing local community service at every opportunity.
